What’s the Big Deal?
It was the first time, while returning from Howrah station in a bus, sitting by the side of the window; I glanced through the crowd of people gathered around in the shops of the street of Burobazar. I realized there are thousands of people, every day going there to buy or sell commodities; commodities that we use regularly, commodities that we cannot live without. They scream, argue and do anything to get them at a base price. As the bus went straight we reached College Street, there also i found similar contrast, where the students gathered around the book stores and try to get the books at a fair price. While passing by a market I saw men and women bargaining over prices. It wasn't a while ago that this scenery was very much common in the crowd pounded street of Kolkata, until recently we found a radicle change in the life style of the people of Kolkata. The streets became suddenly less crowded and the shops became more and more crowd free. Is it because of the new malls and shopping centers that replaced the old bazars and individual shops, or is it because of the amount of the influence of technology that shattered the outlook of the old Indian market?
Being the second largest city of India, the city of Kolkata is one of the oldest and well known cities for its remarkable architectural buildings and landmarks. But lately it's been considered as one of the most developed cities in India. Since trade has been the most important characteristics of the city since the British settlement in Bengal, a lot of development took place in the field of trade and commerce. New malls are getting built in every nook and corner of the streets; promotion of IT Sectors and many more development in the field of commerce. With such advancement, the people are getting many opportunities and choices.
Now the area of trade has become worldwide and reached the era of World Wide Web.
